Colonel May 09, 2013 daily photo. Victory Day or 9th of May marks the capitulation of Nazi Germany in the Second World War (also known as the Great Patriotic War in the Soviet Union). The Soviet government announced the victory early on May 9, 1945 after the capitulation ceremony in Berlin on May 8, 1945. This commemorative date was introduced in the USSR in 1945 but was declared the national holiday only in 1965. People buy flowers to distribute them between veterans in the streets and parks of Moscow and other cities. Those people who were 20 years old in 1945 are now 88 years old. Some decades ago you could see a lot of veterans each holding some flowers. Today you can see just a few veterans with great bunches of flowers in hands. Time goes by...
